Help deciding what to do

Post by sourbluff »

Ok I just picked up a ... well not entirely sure but is a bumpside that much I know  From what I have gotten from this site so far :fr: it appears that I have a 70 frame, 68 grill and 67 drivers door SWEET

Now I just need to decide exactly what I plan to do with her. As I am not that familar with body work would like comments on how bad various rust issues are and how best to go about fixing them. For instance, I know the passenger inner fender has to be replaced. But I can have passenger floor replaced without changing out entire cab right? What about the cab mount on driver side, can this be repaired/replaced?

Thanks for weeding through my questions and for advice provided!

Here are pics, I might have gotten just a little camera happy :D http://www.flickr.com/gp/10458405@N04/RrBkg3

Both of your doors are the '68-up style. '67 doors have a lever-type handle on the inside, whereas the '68-up style has the paddle-type that yours have. What's confusing you is the '67 VIN plate on your '68 door installed by a previous owner. You can tell it's not original, since the left rivet is solid (the factory rivets were hollow) and the right side is held on with a screw.

I'm guessing that since you said your frame was a '70 that you found the VIN numbers stamped on it? If so, it definitely looks like the PO assembled pieces from several different trucks into one running vehicle.

All the rusted-out areas on yours are very common problem areas on these trucks, and patch panels are available to fix them from virtually all the major Ford truck parts vendors. See the Links & Resources page and download/order catalogs from (at least) the first seven vendors. You can get replacement floorpans and cab mounts, so that you wouldn't have to replace the whole cab.

Yes I found it on craigslist. Actually went out to look at late 70s 3/4 ton for axles and ended up bringing this home

Guy I got it from practically had personal salvage yard in his lot/building, was rather fun wandering through all of it.

I think the plan is to start with drivetrain and get that redone before body work, is there anything I should do to keep what I have from getting worse during that time?
