Bump and Dent windshield gaskets the same?

Post by Ranchero50 »

Title says it all. Looking on the California mustangs site at gaskets and they show them being different or at least not availiable for the bumps, but NPD shows the same numbers for both.

actually it shows them the same if you have the chrome trim or you are wanting to use the chrome trim on your windshield.

Yeah, only I'm lacking the trim or the motivation to fight it in while installing the glass.

Oh well, I ordered the rubber without the groove thingy. I saw enough trucks in the yard last weekend to get a complete set, but didn't like the thought of installing them and the windshield at the same time. Looked like a disaster in the making. Luckily I'm getting free glass from a dentside.

Ranchero50,

Where'd you wind up getting your gasket from?

Have you got it yet, and is the quality/fit ok?

Thanks in advance.

I got the gasket from Cali today and it looks fine (haven't installed it yet though). I figure the '73-79 is different because the glass is thinner (the channel in the new ruber is 1/8" thinner than the factory stuff). That's ok because I have a '77 windshield for it.

AFAIK the glass is same thickness. i beleive if your older gasket is thicker its from swelling.

also it maay be thinner new becuase technology dioesn't require an ulte thick peice of rubber anymore.
