removing/replacing old antennae.

Post by 1971ford »

im waiting for a local store to restock a stereo that im going to get but i dont have an antennae, i only have the base part with a little 1 in. tall rusted pole sticking out of it. to replace the antennae, do i have to get another base, or can i just buy another pole part of the antennae and stick it on the 1in. pole after i get the rust off? or is it allready wasted because of the rust?
how do i take the old antennae base off?
how do i replace the antennae?
thanks 8)

i dont think you can get lucky enough to get another anteena that will fit that base. to remove the old base take a screwdriver and flip the chrome piece up off of the base. there are four screws under there that will remove the base. and then you fish it out of there with the cable and all.

with a coat hanger or something. its not that hard since you have your a/c box out. look at how it was ran before and rerun it the same way.

The antenna on my '69 came from a '77 dentside. Bolted in and out no problem.
Just in case you needed an excuse to go to a pull-apart.

i dont even know if im old enough for a pull-apart. im 13. i know that i cant go to pickn'pulls because you have to be 16. ive always wanted to go into a junkyard to get random bumpside/dentside parts and now an antennae. i want to send my dad into a pickn'pull with a camera and he could come back with his finds. lol

You can't even go in there with your father? I use to take my 5 year old in all the time. This was a pretty clean place as far as junkyards go. Nothing just laying around on the ground. We just walked up and down the rows looking He would point to every old truck he saw and tell me all the parts that I could use off of it. I was always just looking when we both went, this place is pretty expensive. He still talks about it.

I'd attach a piece of good twine (or wire) to the old cable. Then when you pull the old parts off it would leave the twine so you could attach it to the new one. The just pull on the twine and feed the cable at the same time

I was about to say the same thing. but you beat me to it.

Picture hanging wire works really well to if you get it tied. It will resist sharp edges real well.

the are saying that you can tie something to the old annteena wire before you pull it out. once you get the old wire out tie the new wire to it and pull the new wire back through.

i think i get what you are saying but wouldnt the antennae part get in the way? it depends on the antennae i guess, unless the wire is detachable.

im going to be really surprised if this posts. i keep getting a error that says "invalid session, please resubmit form"ive tried allowing session cookies but that didnt make a difference. well see if this post or if im talking to myself...........
