cowl seal

Post by Whoaaanelly »

OK, now that I've just received a second cowl seal that doesn't fit, can anybody tell me where I can get one that does? The first came from NPD and the second from LMC -- they're both identically wrong. The spacing on mine is equal for every hole, but both of the ones I've got so far have some of the clips in the right place/spacing and some not. Thanks for any help if you've ever got one that does work. I'm about to make my own somehow.

i think i remember reading that someone had the same problem with theres and they let it set in the sun and that heated it enough to let it stretch to fit properly to thier cowling. maybe it was sharkdance.

No, I wish it were that simple. I had left the first one in the sun because I had purchased it about 6 months ago and it was stored all coiled up. All of the holes are evenly spaced in the truck and it is clear from measuring these two together that they put the clip in all evenly spaced except the second one in from both ends. So the problem is two are too far spaced apart. Maybe the 67 is different than 68-72's but they don't say so. Maybe Dennis Carpenter has something different?

OK, I found the long forum threads on this from a couple years ago, but from what I read it seems that no matter what year you have -- all the holes are equidistance from each other, whereas the seals I got actually had clips spaced the same from each other (mirrored end to end), but they're not all the same distance from each other. It was like the second one from either end was spaced farther apart than the others were. I'll measure the two new ones I have here tonight and post the measurements to see if they fit "something."

I don't know that anyone makes one that fits properly, I suspect just one vendor and the different suppliers all buy from whoever that is. It do suck...I bought same places as you, neither fit. Banjo.

what about removing the clips that are wrong and using some silicone to secure them or can the clips be loosend/removed and moved to the correct spacing?

i thought i had also heard that the new ones go on upside down from what you think they do i think.
