Tail Gate

Is this the correct tail gate for this year truck? Can you tell by the latch? I ask because the tail gate is not latching correctly unless I slam it very hard and a different color on the bed side of the gate has worn through. I"m telling myself that it is oxidation until I here otherwise. I'm a parent in denial.

do you have a pic? the only way to tell is if we see it. there are only two eras of tailgates that will fit our trucks. the 66-72 models and the 73-79 models. the latch is probably just dirty is probably the reason it doesn't work real well though. i doubt the year of the gate has much to do with it. but it could.

Is that correct latch? Opening from the side instead of up.

yes it opens from the side. i opened mine the other day from not opening it in years and had forgotten that was the way it opened. i thought it was weird since all my newer trucks open upwards.

ok yes that is the correct year tailgate. the body lines match up to the bed.

The pics wouldn't auto open for me either, but if you right click the 'X' the click 'view image' you can see them one at a time.

where did you get that diamond plating? it looks nice.

i put the links for them in the address bar and that worked fine. then i could click on the red x and say show picture and then that would work too. thanks for the help fordman and flyboy2610.

Pics: I can view them just fine but I have had the same problem with other posts.

I bought the truck with diamond plate top. Sorry I don't know where the previous owner got them.

those can be gotten at almost anyplace that sells aftermarket truck parts. like those truck upgrade places they sell tool boxes nerf bars and that kind of stuff.
