Grill stripping

Post by RTG_RACING »

OK so i got the buckets stripped in my cooler with some draino. What do you put the shell in to strip it? To big for a bath tub. Wife loved that but she let my guitar get broke so who cares. :x

Anyway I would be greatfull for any ideas.

make a tub of some kind. or use a barrel with the lid cut off. and only do half at a time. sos pads will remove it also. i think it will atleast clean it up.

I want to do that? How do you do it? Draino?
Will it work with steel grilles? aluminum?

it is for the aluminum grills. to remove the anodized coating on them. so you can polish it up better than it is now. for the steel grilles paint stripper would probably be the best thiing to use on them.

That is what I did. Built a box and lined it with plastic. I used Draino crystals and it orked great. Took about 20 or 30 minutes.

I have one question, since i am thinking about doing this to my grill aswell. what do you do with all the left over chemicals? I am not a tree huger or anything and no way affiliated with the epa, just want to know for my own knowing. Or is there not much left over, does it evaperate?

U could also take a steal 55 gallon drum, cut in half long ways , weld back together . There u go a nice deep parts bath with drain holes on ether end . just take some angle iron to make a stand for it .

Could you sand the aluminum down and then buff it out?

I used two cans of the draino crystals. After I was finished I poured it down the drain. I have herd of people clearing them along with recoating them. As far as sanding them I don't know. That coating ford puts on is hard. I would think it would take for ever to sand and buff that out. I stripped mine then polished it with mothers polish and #0000 steel wool. It gave me the look I was going for. I did strip an extra headlight bucket to play around with. If you polish it with compound and a wheel it will look like chrome.
