The Rustoleum paint job will never be as nice as a good quality professional paint job, but it can look a whole bunch better than a poor quality pro paint job and beats alot of rattlecan paint jobs that I've seen. It does involve alot of work to do one of these old trucks, but if your looking to improve the appearance of a daily driver and like me want to do all the work on your truck yourself then I say give it a try. My truck will never be a show truck and was never meant to be, but I've had many people, including several people who work at or used to work at body shops, say how surprised they are how well it has turned out. No runs, or drips, and didn't cost 6 or 8 grand to get there.

I found it was a great winter project. I painted in temps as low as 40F and it didn't harm it any, just took a long while to dry. I didn't sand after every single coat and that makes a lot more work at the end. A few pieces I did sand after every coat turned out nicer than the stuff I only sanded at the end. I still need to go over the whole car with a final sand and buff, but the nice thing about it is you can do that any time.

re: How do you paint your car with a roller?
Is there a technical article about how to do it?
I know it was explained in the thread but it would
be nice to have concise steps with pictures.
A video of the process would be great!
My nova has the original paint except for the
driver door and fender. It doesn't exactly match
and is very dull. Also there are little rusty
bumps and spots over the hood and trunk.
Someday I'd like to paint it or have it painted.
Maybe then I'll start parking it under a carport
at least.

HotRod painted a Falcon a few months back using the roller and rustoleum, thats about the only place I ever saw anything close to a step by step.

re: How do you paint your car with a roller?
I'm feeling to lazy to read thru these right now but
I found this at hotrod.com.
This is the $98 dollar Falcon paint job article:
"The end result blows the minds of anyone who sees the car, and you'd never guess in a million years that it was painted with Rust-Oleum, a roller, and a few spray cans. Be advised, however, that there was plenty of elbow grease used on this project."

Here is another article:
"I have spent the last few weeks sanding and prepping my '65 Rambler and put the first coat of paint on yesterday. The first coat was very transparent but dried to a very nice gloss with virtually no bubbles or runs."

That because the automotive paint industry (an industry with less integrity then a crack dealer and only slightly more integrity then the insurance industry) has brainwashed people that it takes 1000's of dollars to put shiny color on metal.

hey another member of the nova club cool, my first car was a 77 nova/concourse fully optioned with trim everywhere and an automatic it had a 305 with the 350 turbo hyd.
i have found the walmarts spray paint to work good. as long as it aint windy and you follow the same procedures for painting it with a gun.
the trick to a good can job is to move the whole body not the rist.

I don't want to give em a heart-attack. That is what would happen if I answered the door in the buff. Heck it almost scares me to death when I step out of the shower and look in the mirror.~Mancar1~
