So what does it mean if my VIN tag has no paint code listed?

Post by ryans51 »

I've got a '68 F-100 that is a nice light green, much like some of the newer mustangs. I love the color, but, I have no idea which color it is because there is a blank space on the VIN tag where the color should be.

I do have a DSO # on my truck, so could the color be a special order?

Mostly out of curiosity here, but I will need some touch up paint at some point.

Thanks,
Ryan

Yes, no paint code means it's a special-order paint. You'd need to find the build sheet to get the codes....or pay Marti Autoworks to do a rundown of your VIN.

However, often the special-order paint was simply a color from the car lineup that wasn't typically available on the trucks. And as luck would have it, just three days ago I found an original factory 1968 Ford cars paint chip brochure, so I just scanned it for you. Do any of these look familiar?

Hey Hey!

I Think we have a winner. Looks to me to lime gold. Most of the paint is in great conditon, so I want to keep with it, but Ive got fender corners to fix.

Thanks for the info!

What is legend lime. It is not listed as an option in the 68 paint chip brochure. My paint seems closest to the gold lime.
