Ot. 94 bronco brake help

Post by theskytoucher »

Sorry for the off topic thread but i cant stand the fullsizebronco.com forums!!!!
On my bronce i need to replace the rotors on the front end, i would like to only have to buy the rotor and not the rotor hub assembly, so i went to separate the two and got them most of the way apart but there is wat looks like a gear attached to the back of the hub not allowing me to remove it!!!!! Do any of you guys have any experience doing this that could shed some light on it for me? The Bronco does have automatic hubs which i have heard arent the best but it is just a daily driver for my mom at the moment so no real wheeling is needed!!!
Thanks

I haven't actually done a brake job on one of those year 4x4's, but I'm pretty sure that gear that's tripping you up is the speed sensor tone ring for anti-lock brakes. My *guess* is that ring is pressed on and you'll want to use a gear puller or a press to get it off. Could be way off here, I've only looked at the parts your talking about, not actually taken them apart. Hopefully someone else has done it and can explain exactly what's needed.

Ok well according to wat i found at fullsizebronco.com it is a tone ring and the way they suggested to remove it was to tap the studs to push the ring off!!!! So i tried it and it worked great!!!! Thanks

I'm sorry I didn't see this earlier.
As an long-time member of Fullsize Bronco I've built up a lot of knowledge on them.
Yes, that front tone ring is for your ABS brakes and the studs get pressed off to seperate the hub and rotor. I believe it was in 95 when they switched to the slip-on rotors.
