More Pics From the F-500 Core Swap PICS

Post by FoMoCo »

Hey all, now that my computer is fixed it's time to update with many pics. I know how pick-hungy we are here, so I'll do my best.
This Support swap started a couple years ago. Its since been finished for awhile but I never posted pics of the installed part. The swap consisted of drilling most the spot welds from a decent light duty RS and the HD RS and swapping the mounts. The Rad spacer had to be made so the straight six rad would fit in the larger opening. The only other modification was drilling the holes for the inner fender mounts. The dimples for the holes were there is was just a matter of drilling them.

I also welded som 1/4 20 studs to piece of steel tubing for an ultra custom lug wrench holder

Rad spacer from a peice or 20 gauge sheet metal, spot welds, and 5/16 18 body bolts

I have not followed this thread... but do have a couple of questions.

Did you install an F-500 radiator support in a pickup or go the other way?
I have a '68 B-500 bus (the chassis and running gears are the same as the F-500) that I need to replace the rad support on and was hoping to use one from a '71 F-250 that I already have.
What would need to be done to make that work?
I've not even been able to locate any place around this area that even had any of the medium duty trucks. I can either find light duty F-100-F350 or big trucks, nothing in between.

Thank you,

The core from the F-medium (f-500 and up) duty trucks are taller than the F-100-350. If you look at the bottom of either core support your see the lower channel spot welded on. The lower channel is almost flat on the light duty and several inches deep on the medium. The Medium duty mounts to the frame in the center of the support unlike the L/R mounts of the light duty. Across the upper face of the medium duty are many holes for mounting the large heay grills. Lastly, the rad mounts are as tall as the support and 3 inches wide on the medium duty, to space the rad closer to the engine.

To sum it up mounting a medium duty support to a light duty is fairly straight foward, vise/versa would be a major pain.
