Can you use POR over body filler or does it have to be clean metal? I know you dont have to sand all the rust off just the scale that is why I am asking. I though about totally smothing my frame with a little body filler, but this eliminates powder coating as it wouldnt stick and if it did , the filler would probably bake out.
So would POR 15 work better in this case?
I know beat the dead horse....POR15 question.

I don't think they've specifically mentioned anything about body filler on their website, but I don't see why that would cause any problems, as long as the filler isn't super-smooth. Rough it up a bit to give the POR something to bite into and I'd think you'd be OK. It sticks to everything else (except smooth plastic) like Superglue, so I see no reason why body filler would be an exception.

re: I know beat the dead horse....POR15 question.
Whoops....guess they DO mention it, but they say to put the filler material on top of the POR-15, not under it. From the POR-15 Application Information:
CAN I USE BODY PUTTY OR FILLER WITH POR-15?
Yes. First paint both sides of the rusted area with POR-15; then use body filler or putty as soon as the POR-15 is dry to the touch. For best results and adhesion use our StraightLine or RestoGrip body fillers over POR-15.

re: I know beat the dead horse....POR15 question.
Remember por15 is basically a thick epoxy.... I am almost positive it works the same as your epoxy primers as far as what can and can't be done.
If it can hold it on the truck, I don't see why it couldn't hold it against the truck. Why would it matter what side the por-15 is on? Ya know?

re: I know beat the dead horse....POR15 question.
I agree...I've gotton this POR-15 on all kinds of stuff (most accidentally) and rest assured that it will NOT easily come off. Even though the company would prefer you to put it OVER the POR-15 (just to make sure the metal is protected), I see no reason why you couldn't do the filler first and then cover it with the POR. I would think that as long as the metal prep was correct and the filler sticks to the steel, the POR isn't going to have any problems sticking to the filler.

do you think Por15 is like epoxy or is it like a urethane (i.e.; cures in a moisture environment)? When I used the Por15 out of the tube, I noticed it bubbled a bit as it cured much like urethane glue does.

I am (almost) positive it IS an epoxy product.
