Trim restoration help

Post by pyrofighting »

I know you can use Red Devil Lye to remove the anodizing, but you cant buy it anymore, no one carries it. What else can I use other than oven cleaner? What chemical is it that actually removes the anodizing? Also what can i soak the parts in, will a platic tub work? or will it be eaten away?

Thanks. :?

If nobody locally has that, try E-bay. I just did a quick search for it there and came up with a dozen or so listings, and priced very reasonably.

Red Devil Lye is gone (R.I.P.) Try Home Depot, Lowe's or Wall Mart and see if they still carry Roebic Crystal Drain Opener. Says it's 100% sodium hydroxide which I find hard to believe.

Or steal it from somebody's meth lab. What are they gonna do, report it?

"Yeah 220, 221, whatever it takes."

I just went to True Value (hardware store) and they have a different brand. Works great! Might want to check out Keith's trim polishing tech page for application and warnings. It's bad stuff.

Good luck!

You might also want to try Barkeepers friend. the stuff is amazing and a can of it will set you back $1.49. Wet your part, dust some on, let it sit for a minute or two and polish off.
