Bin trying to put my new logo/signs on my work vehicles, in real gold leaf

after a day or so of dicking around, I can know place the gold proper.
so it looks like a pro's work but what do I finish it with? clear coat or is there some thing else I should be using? I really don't want to mess up at this point, so ya got any Ideas?
I tried just some automotive clear on a small sample, it work but the gold now looks very dull, and some what distorted and speckled?

so what Im wondering is should it be a urethane or a enamel clear coat or what?
and yes I talked to some sign people/shops but basically they tell a person go %&*# them self. So I bought 4 books and guess what, they says nothing about how to finish or protect the gold when on a vehicle? or anything even close for that matter. :?

Is it real gold leaf? If it's 23+k it shouldn't need a sealer, just a wiping now and then with a silk cloth. The imitation stuff does tarnish and I think its Varathane (sp) they use to seal it?

Ya real 23 karat leaf, got 500 sheets and likely payed way to much.

:? it might stick/stay on the truck but really it needs a little more protection. for intense one person/butt wipe already has dug a finger nail in/through the lettering, seeing if it was real or not :x I just was hopping there was some magic sealer that would save my gold work from the scratches and gold picking people.

I know when they do motorcycles they do the base coat, then the gold leaf, and then clear over top of it. SO where did you get your gold leaf? I was interested in buying some and lettering my truck with it also.

It's been a while since I looked at a can of POR's Glisten PC but I think the claim was for a true clear coat as it is intended for use on crome, polished alum, and stainless on resto projects so you don't have to buff and polish all the time. Don't know about gold though.

I got a bunch from Houston Art Inc. and also Michaels Art supply.
they carry the stuff in packs of 25 or 500.
but for the 23k stuff you need to special order Item# 001213B for 500 sheets or item#0010213 for 25 sheets
or try
www.houstonart.com

and ya they sell some sealers to but from my understanding they are for indooor use. :?
