Replacement metal - help

Post by Supermike »

Ok... I finally got around to pulling back the driver's side floor mat last night to see what lay beneath... the results aren't good. There's at least one hole about 1-2" in diameter in the floor pan, and a couple other smaller ones. There's no doubt that's going to need replaced. I've also got some rust bubbling pretty good on the lower driver's side door, so I may need to replace the metal there, too.

So the reason for my post here is two-fold:

1) I would like feedback/opinions from anyone who has ordered replacement metal from Carpenter, LMC, NPD, Concours, Blue Oval, etc. as to the quality of their floor pans and door metal. Please only give feedback if you have actually ordered and/or used the metal from there. The real question is with regard to the overall quality of the part. If you feel one place has flimsy metal, that's important. If another place was superb, that's good too.

There are just too many places and prices for me to get my head around, and I need some help here.

2) The second thing I need to know is what a fair price would be to have someplace replace the floor pans and the door metal. I know prices will range a bit based on lacation and degree of difficulty, but I'm just seeking a ballpark to feed the examiner (aka my wife).

THANKS!!

Me myself I like LMC. I know most of these guys normally get the parts from the same place, but I have had excellent service from them. The patch panel I just put in my bed side was top notch from LMC. I'm getting ready to order some more sheetmetal from them. THey get my vote.

Thanks!! That's exactly the kind of feedback I'm looking for...

Anyone else echo LMC? Has anyone tried Carpenter's parts? Why is he so much more expensive?

So you're saying that dc's stuff is better... I'm assuming maybe thicker/sturdier sheet? The thing that worried me about LMC is the disclaimer that because of shipping, it may be bent/scratched/etc.

I don't want to pay for bent/scratched up stuff! I would think an occasional scratch is expected, but if it happens enough you need a disclaimer, you've got a problem...

I have gotten sheetmetal from DC and NPD. It was all DC stuff.

Excellent quality indistiguishable from OEM except that it is e-coated and OEM/NOS is not.

Good service from both.

They give that disclaimer just to cover them self in case it happens, but all the packages that I have gotten from LMC it took me forever to get it unboxed with all the packing material in there. You should have saw how they packaged the glass I bought from them. The sheetmetal I got from LMC was from a company in Ohio is where the company who they get it from is at. The only part I know for sure I would order from DC is the front mounts just because everyone does say there like the originals and look right, but it will be hard pressed to beat LMC from the stuff I have gotten from them. Just my :2cents:

you can ford a river or stream and get to the other side, if you dodge it you will not, and if you drive a chevy to the levee it will run dry and the music will die.

I thought half of lmc's stuff was supplied by DC.
