17s

Post by CA180 »

Anyone running 17s on there truck? I've got a set of 17" wheels and tires, but the tires are way to tall. They hit the bottom of the bed in the rear.

Stock tire shows G78-15, which would be a 235/60-15, the tires on the 17s are 265/70-17. The current tire is 235/70-15... Anyhow, to get to the point, what would be the biggest tire to fit under the bed on a 15 or 17? And what tires are you guys runnin?

I have 265/70-15's on the back of mine. No clearance issues at all. As far as I remember, I don't think a G78 crosses to a 60 series tire though. Should be more likely a 70 or 75 series.

What kinda back spacing you got going on? Thats an inche difference between your tires and my 17" tires.

AS for the G78, i was going off of this link.

tires with letters are passenger car tires.
they are typically load range C.
numbered tires are light truck tires and are load range D and E.
this is the amount of weight each tire is rated to carry.

you can ford a river or stream and get to the other side, if you dodge it you will not, and if you drive a chevy to the levee it will run dry and the music will die.

Thanks, but wasnt looking for load rating, i was looking for size. I will be running LT tires, but thats beside the point. I need it to fit under the truck, and i dont want to have to experiment to find the size that will clear.

btw, the back spacing is 4" and they barely clear the inner fender well of the box.

I have 285/70-15 BFGs on a 15x8 rim in the rear and 255/70-15 on a 15x 7 inch rim in the front but I don't know the back spacing without the truck here at work.Anyhow no clearance issues though.

I'm starting to think these 17's have the wrong backspacing. I'll try and find time to measure it later.

I've got some 17x9s with 265/70/17's on them that I put on my '51. Hopefully when the weather gets nicer, maybe Sunday, I am going to test fit them on the '72 I am curious if they fit. They just barely touch the frame on the front of my '51 at a full turn so you'd think it would fit in a '72 wheel well, although the '51 came with stock 17" rims. IIRC my backspacing is around 4".
