Removing Bed or Cab

Post by $500F100 »

I see in a lot of projects that people have removed their bed's, cabs or both for frame restoration. This maybe a dumb question, but what is the easiest way to do that once everything is disconnected or moved out of the way? Do you use four people to lift, or can you just flip it over onto some padding? I am debating on wether or not I will remove the bed to treat the frame with por15. If I need a chain hoist or 4 people, I will probably just roll underneath and paint the frame as best as I can. What does everyone think?

if your going to do it i would take the bed off and do it right. its not that big of deal to do it. the cab is more stuff to do to get it off but if your going to do the back you might as well do the front.

2 people can get the bed off. Just remove the tires and possible remove teh tailgate to make it lighter, but it might affect the weight distribution.

Bumpside beds are a hard lift for 2 guys, but you can slide it off onto a trailer pretty easily with just 2. I say four guys for a bed, 4 guys for a cab.

Once you remove the bed and get the rear frame pretty, you can lay down some padding and roll the cab onto it's back.

If you have some real basic rigging equipment a 400 pound cab or bed is not that big of a deal to move by yourself. Just make sure your rafters are up to the task!

Ok to be the safest yeah 4, but if you have to get it off 2 people can do it. We have several times before with just my Dad and myself.

Ratchet straps can be a real lifesaver doing things they were never intended for!
