Junk yard... what to pull?
Going to the junkyard this weekend to pull a few things. I'm trying to find out what is important to pull and what I can do without.
I'm going to pull a power steering pump off a mid 80's truck. I know the engine brackets and pulleys are important. I have an I-6. The cap for the pump is missing. Can I do without actually taking the pump itself since it will be replaced with one purchased later? Also, will the cam shaft pulley work on my engine?
Another item I am going for is the master cylinder and brake booster off of a 79 truck. Same question here. Should I just be getting the brackets for the brake booster seeing how I will be replacing the master cylinder and brake booster later? Master cylinder is pretty rusted and doesn't have the cap.
Thanks in advance as always,
Jeremy

re: Junk yard... what to pull?
One more thing I forgot. Do I need to grab the brake pedal assembly from the 79? I'm putting all this in a 67, I probably should have mentioned that earlier. I have read Keith's thread on the difference between push rod differences for the 67, but there was no mention about 73-79 brake parts in a 67.

unless im mistaken you will need the brake pedal bracket for your 67 too.
Seems like I remeber too about having to drill some extra holes for the new bracket.

Check out this thread... we've been discussing what it requires to upgrade the steering and brakes in my '67... perhaps it will help you know which parts to pull.

Is the brake pedal bracket hard to pull out?
Also, how hard is it to remove the pulley from the power steering pump?

on 67 - 72 trucks once you remove the steering column and the guage cluster you will need a half inch back up wrench behind the cluster to remove the bolts holding the bracket to the dash. then yhere are six bolts from the firewall to the booster area. as well as the brake rod bolt which i use a couple of cresents on and the wiring to the brake pedal switch. the hardest part is taking the booster brackets off of trhe firewall. the bolts are long winded with only a ratchet at the junk yard.

Am I going to be using the brake pedal from the 79 as well? How hard is it to wire in the brake pedal switch?

This is only my opinion, seems like if your using a '79 booster then you should use your '79 brakebracket too. '67 is for '67 booster only.
per keith:
To use a '70 booster in a '67, you'll need to use a '68-up brake/clutch pedal bracket. See the following thread for more info:

if you have a 67 then you need to change the brake pedal because of the rod length on 67. as far as the wiring i don't know i haven't attempted that yet myself. it couldn't be that hard it was man by man. if it was made by aliens i would tend to wonder how the heck they done that anti gravity thing with thier 67-72 space trucks. can you say low rider space truck?

Haven't run across any of those in a junkyard yet...
How does one get the pulley off the power steering pump?

You should grab everything. If you buy the stuff new or rebuilt you may need cores.

You make a good point. Was trying to save a few bucks, but will pay off in the end to just grab it.
