Cab corner rust
Any suggestions.....No serious damage just allot of trash and dirt. I plan on vacuuming it out but since I am planning on keeping the truck how do I get in there to treat the rust? My hand barley fits down there and I don't want to go through the trouble of sand blasting down there. The rust isn't heavy so I figured maybe I'll try a wire brush or a rust converter. Just a little worried because this seems to be a common bumpside problem.

One Step rust converter by Bondo. A good auto parts store will have it. Then prime it and paint it real good.
To properly use Por-15 you need to prep the metal with Metal Ready, which is an acid. If you don't get all of that cleaned off real well, it will eat through the sheet metal of the cab corner.

re: Cab corner rust
in the old days the old farts used tranny fluid and drain oil mixed then sprayed in on heavy keeps rust at bay and prevents moisture from feeding the existing rust so they claimed.

Just a word of caution....POR-15 will not dry in the middle of a thick layer or puddle. Once it skins over and the skin sets up, the middle will stay liquid....forever!
I've got a quart can of POR-15 that I accidentally got some on the rim lip when I sealed the can after using it. The next time I went to use it I found the lid was stuck good...and in attempting to remove it I ended up messing up the can enough that there was no way the lid would have gotten back on and sealed. Since there wasn't much left in the can, and I didn't have anything handy to pour the remainder in to save, I just set it up on the workbench, figuring I'd toss it once it dried out. Well, two years later, that can is STILL on my workbench...and you can shake the can and hear the POR-15 sloshing around inside. I'm going to try to use it, though I'll probably have to use a cut-off tool to cut the bottom of the can off!![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_laughing01.gif)
That's true what Tim said about the oil, too. My dad had a '71 F250 when I was a kid, and he just finally sold it a couple years ago. The cab corners had zero rust in them, and he told he that every time he changed the oil he'd take the used oil and dump a little down inside. Worked like a charm.

re: Cab corner rust
I would seriously use old nasty gear oil or rust proofing. I wouldn't personally put any rust treatment acids down there that would weaken the existing surface/paint. Back to the old farts, Iv'e seen them poor old oil on core supports, beds, inside doors, and drip rails. Let it soak and wipe off.

re: Cab corner rust
Exactly
However if your going to add sound deadner you should do that first before oiling up the rest of the metal.

re: Cab corner rust
My father once told me the story about oil and I never beleived a word. Does it have to be used gear oil? I was thinking the oil with a paint brush. It sounds good since it's an unexposed area anyways and doesn't cost much
Further advice is appreciated ![Thumbs up ](./images/smilies/icon_thumright.gif)
