Ok, I am trying to correctly decipher the data plate on my NEW 68 F100. I get confused when it comes to the axle. The axle code is "E9". In looking at the breakdown, does that mean the "E9" is "3.54 - Dana 60-3"? And when it comes to the front axle code, where do I find that letter designation? Would that be the "E" in the "E9"?
Sorry to sound like an idiot, but I'm new to this and want to get my facts straight before I start digging in to this truck. Thanks.

re: Data Plate
Without seeing your VIN tag, I think your "E9" decodes as a 9,000 lb capacity front axle and 3.70 Ford rear, which is only a 3300lb capacity. I'm not sure what the exact axle up front is. Maybe another member can help with that. I'm going to poke around now, to see what I can see. Hope this helps a little.

Here's a photo of the data plate, if it helps. Thanks.

re: Data Plate
The reason you dont have a front axle rating is because your truck is a 2wd.

And the education of the GMan as to the ways of the vintage Ford truck continues. Thanks Troy.

No, E9 shows a Dana 60 locker with 3.54 gears. All rearend codes are two-digit. That's a nice rearend, and those 5-lug Dana 60s aren't that common. I've got one in my '67 that came from a nicely-optioned '68 Ranger.71 LONG BED wrote:Without seeing your VIN tag, I think your "E9" decodes as a 9,000 lb capacity front axle and 3.70 Ford rear, which is only a 3300lb capacity. ...

Seeing the VIN tag helps decipher the way the code is written. When I went back to look at how I came up with that info, I realized I had misinterpreted what he meant by "E9". Sorry GMan, thanks Keith.
