Dash Pod Lights

Post by GreaseMonkey »

So, I figured out some things wrong with my dash lights. The reason I was only getting light on the right side was because the high beam indicator light was in the right side light spot, so I moved it back into the center spot not realizing that the middle spot was for the high beam indicator. And to make matter worse I mistakenly hooked up the light for my tachometer to that wire so I have light for the tach only when the high beams are on.

It just recently dawned on me as to why that was happening like it was. So what Im thinking is either there is not power getting up to the back lights from the switch or its something els, like maybe a ground. What do yall think???

Check out the pic, I think Im right on that.

could be ground did you say the one side works?

have you tried bulbs? I thought they where all on the same ground. unless your highbeam light was lighting them up.

looking at my 67-69 Clusters back i see a comon ground for the blinkers that goes over to the bolt holding on the IPVR.

looks like the bulbs sockets ground to the backing. And the ground looks to trace back into the harness and would more than likely be one of the grounds attached to the bracing just behind the cluster opening in the dash.

I don't want to give em a heart-attack. That is what would happen if I answered the door in the buff. Heck it almost scares me to death when I step out of the shower and look in the mirror.~Mancar1~

You have that right the bulbs do ground through the socket to teh housing which grounds back through the connector for the instrument panel and through the mounting screws. Your drawing is right. tie a ground wire with a sheet metal self-tapping screw from the light backing to the frame and see if your lights work better.

The factory tail lights ground through the mounting screws. One of my Heavy duty type tail lights has a socket that does not make the bulb return to ground.
