Wiring up Factory Cruise control from a 77?
How does it tie into the brakes and Is there a speed sensor from the trans? If there is where on an older c4(67-72) would you put it?

I don't want to give em a heart-attack. That is what would happen if I answered the door in the buff. Heck it almost scares me to death when I step out of the shower and look in the mirror.~Mancar1~

The wiring is spliced into the brake light switch leads at the switch, so that when you step on the brakes it deactivates the cruise.
The speedometer cable comes up from the transmission and into the brain box mounted on the left inner fender. There is a second speedometer cable that extends between the brain box and the speedometer in the instrument panel.

re: Wiring up Factory Cruise control from a 77?
Well, it might not be that easy after all. About a month or two ago I stopped in at the local U-Pull-It and grabbed two cruise control setups, both a little different. I spend several hours at the shop today going over these setups, and it appears as if I didn't get everything.
Of the two setups I have, one is a factory unit stamped FoMoCo, the other is a Dana unit. I'm thinking the Ford setup was early and then the Dana setup was used in the later trucks. After I got home this evening I spent some time going through the 1979 factory wiring schematics book I have, and I see some things that I didn't grab....so....
Anyway, from looking at the wiring setup on the Dana unit, it appears as if the wire going to the brake light switch has been spliced into that circuit...it's not something the factory would have done:
The red wires are the factory brake light circuit, while the blue wire goes up to the Dana control unit, mounted on the inner fender:
Anyway, these are two COMPLETELY different setups. The FoMoCo setup has a servo mounted to the engine itself instead of the inner-fender-mounted Dana brainbox. Sometime over the next week or so I'm going to post the pics I took today, along with all the notes I took. However, it's starting to look like I'm going to have to head back to the junkyard and see if I can find another complete setup and make sure I have a copy of the wiring diagram with me, so I can make absolutely certain I get everything this time.

Thats the setup I have on my 77... well the one I decided I would take off becasue I wasn't going to use the cruise and i think it may be effecting my lighting signals because it's not hooked up.

hmm ok i'll wait to see what you come up with i believe my set up is Fomoco.
But it could be dana however i didn't see a brain box on the fender but i did see a box on the right side of the column and then there is the deal that pulls the accelerator linkage to your desired cruise speed.
i'll take pics of what i have ofcuorse i still need to trace every wire from the column to where it goes on my 77's wiring harness.
