I should have done this before, but I would like to introduce myself at last.
My name is Dave Johnson from Waverly New York, sort of between Elmira
and Binghamton. I have a 1970 F100 Sport Custom which I am in the process of doing an amateur resto on. The data plate info is very puzzling
however. It has a color code PM and an interior code 0 4 which is boxwood
green and wimbledon white with a lt/med green interior. I can't find a hint
of green anywheres! It has a diamond blue roof, harbor blue upper body and
diamond blue lower body. The interior has blue a seat, blue door panels,
dash pad and blue dash. I can see in back of the glove box under the dash
and it is blue there also. Blue floor mat also. Now if somebody changed the
color they sure did a heck of a job. Anybody ever seen something like that
before? The vin on the door and the one on the original title matched so it's
not likely the door was replaced having a different data plate.
I like a manual tranny so I got an np435 to replace the C6 with. It was
originally a 302 but now has a 351w that is pretty tired. I just wish I had more room than my single garage has to work on it this winter.
I also have a 2003 F150 XLT STX shortbox flareside and a 1979
Thunderbird Heritage(light blue version) that has only 54,000 miles and is
just as tight as new car, not a rattle or sqeak. Needs paint and the 351m
needs freshening.
So, in closing, it's great to have site full of such usefull info and a lot of
people who have the same craving for Ford Blue!!!
I kind of think maybe my truck was totalled and completely rebuilt
because it has a 1971 grill and steering wheel(which is blue), I hope not.

The sheetmetal and paint might be all original, but the VIN tag could have been transplanted from a different truck. The easiest way to tell if this is the case is to look at the VIN tag rivets. They should be large and hollow, like this:



However, swapping the tags using the factory rivets is easy, since they come out very easily. Therefore, if the tag IS held in with the factory rivets, you should compare your VIN number from the tag and title to the one stamped on the frame. Check out this link for more info:

As noted on the page above, the VIN is stamped in two places on the frame. The forward stamping is easily seen from inside the engine bay, should be about where the alternator is. Might need a wire brush and some rags to clean it up enough to read.

Thanks everyone for the welcome. Hey, kknip, my truck came from
North Carolina that's why it's mostly rust free. But the DMV took my title
when I registered it, If I had known NY doesn't title old vehicles I would
have made a copy. Good thing I don't live down south I'd have about a
dozen old rust free vehicles!
