Billet fuel door

Post by Fossil Dawg »

I am rebuilding my 71 F250cs/sc into a originally, modified, modern, custom, if that makes sense to ya'll. :D

How can I install one of those "BILLET FUEL DOORS W/LOCK", as Keith pointed out my filler neck is below the beltline, any suggestions, :hmm: ?

Thanks, any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

i was going to use a 73-79 filler door on mine and use the neck that came with the door. i know i would have to cut into the bed but it will give me what i what a nice smooth none eye catching filler door.

If you're referring to the billet pieces listed on E-bay, you might want to read the description a little better...if you're talking about the auction I think you're talking about, those aren'tthe actual door assemblies, but billet covers for the existing door. If I'm wrong, please post a link where we can check it out.

As for adding a door, about the only way of incorporating one is to graft one from a donor vehicle. I intend to do that with both of my projects trucks too. It shouldn't be too big a deal to adapt the donor vehicle's filler neck to fit.

I don't want to give em a heart-attack. That is what would happen if I answered the door in the buff. Heck it almost scares me to death when I step out of the shower and look in the mirror.~Mancar1~

i was just under my dad's mistress' 97 E150 (been doing alot of PM lately, but this is critter damage) replacing the rubber fuel fill hose from the tank to the neck (87$!!!!at ford thanks to mr rodent that chewed up the hose  ) when i realised how similar in arangment it was to the aux tank in my CS, unfortunatly unlike the CS the E150 has a 45* bend at the tank and the straight NAPA hose wouldnt work (it tended to chug back/burp) so we ended up getting the dealer hose...

FWIW the whole filler neck and hose assembly (with vent hose) was ~145
and the outside has a nice round door with a finger recess on the door itself, just in case you want to look into that option...

i will prob be going with locking gas caps when i start driving it this spring, i have an twin engine Olds that consumes most of my time...go figure
race car comes before the tow vehicle :D

edit: woot 100th post...

I am thinking of a billet door from someplace like "BILLET SPECIALTIES", no I don't want a p.o.j., :nono: I want the real thing :D :woohoo:, I would like it to be flush mount and have the smooth look 8) :D, so I guess I would need the whole enchilada from a donor, any ideas as to what would be a good donor, thanks for any and all help, :fr: :woohoo:

you will need some sort of sub assembly under the bed to have the metal filler stick through. and cut back the hose so it will let the metal filler be inset into the sub assembly. just like they do on new trucks today. that kind of deal

Just my own personal opinion....but if you do get the filler door assembly from a donor vehicle, get a square door. The round doors just look too new and won't match the squarish body lines of our trucks. :2cents:
