Fullsize bed-stepside

Post by towens »

I have the opportunity to change my rusty bed for a stepside. I like the looks of it and am considering it. Would the stepside bed fit on the fullsize frame?

only problem I see is if yours is a lwb and the stepside is a swb.

(I know that this sounds bad but...) Would I be able to make it fit if I cut the frame?

I believe that they did make lwb stepsides if you find one it should bolt on.

another option for ya-
start with a SWB stepside box. extend it to 8', re-mount the fenders in the correct location, and install. seems a lot easier and less drastic then cutting the frame on your truck!
But :yt: they did make an 8' and a 9' stepside if you can locate one.

That's a LOT of work just to try to adapt a bed that already exists anyway. My personal opinion would be to simply keep your eyes open for a box that matches your wheelbase....then it's just a bolt-on procedure.

yea, you would have to split the seams on the fenders, extend the box, and then re-atach the fenders. To much work for a lazy guy like me. Just go with a styleside bed

Thanks everyone. It was one of those things that was boggling my mind. I will just try to find a better lwb bed, easier to locate one anyways.

As Keith said its a super PIA. Now if your are talking about a lwb box then go for it. But i think the long step sides are kinda rare. Been a really long time since i have seen one. Might locate one on a early 60's truck some where.

Was just thinking on the stepside/flairsides they are all bolted together. What about getting one out of a catolog like lmc?
