stylside bed body seams weld smooth

on my 68 I want to smooth the bed out a little more to look more custom. I have already shaved the stake pockets and now I want to shave the line that runs vertical on the back part of the bed were the taillight portion meets up. Has anyone done this or would recommending this. I have seen it on a few 67-72 just wondering

I've done it to two beds. It's definitely worth it not having to worry about the seam rusting out again.

I've never thought about that but I like the idea. It will look smoother and cleaner. Just Do It!

One thing Keith told me he learned was to only weld about one inch at a time and IMMEDIATELY quench the weld area. Then move to a cool spot and repeat the process. If you try to weld too long a bead and you don't quench the weld area, you will warp the panels.

I plan on doing this but it sounds like it will take quite a while to let stuff stay cool enough. Cleaning out the seam will take plenty of time too I am afraid.

the bed is super clean and rust free because it has just came back from acid dip

best way to do it is go front to back of each side, or even side to side front to back.

if you weld the driver side front a little, go weld the passenger side back, then the driver side back, then the passenger side front.

It is just like shaving a handle on your door.

I'm shaving it all. Just grind it down and weld them up and then us body filler to smooth out the imperfections. Just be careful about getting the metal too hot and it warping.

Thats what I did if I was going to resto my truck I was going to start with clean bare metal. I had every thing on my 68 dipped that was sheet metal even my spare body parts. I had the frame and suspension sand blasted.
