Seal kit for Manual Steering Help Please!
Where can I get a seal kit for a manual steering box? There is grease coming all out of the top and I need to put new seals in it. Taking the power steering box out, selling it,and putting the manual back in.

re: Seal kit for Manual Steering Help Please!
i haven't seen any seal kits for MS boxes.
maybe someone put the wrong type of greese in it?
i remember seeing an article on a mustang or bronco site on how to properly greese AND what type of greese to use with a MS box.
personally i would just keep the PS box in, i think if you swap it back to MS you're going to need a different steering column.

re: Seal kit for Manual Steering Help Please!
Just talked to a bunch a people and they said that nobody makes it anymore. If I rebuild the bendix box, is there any place that has instructions with it? I talked to advance auto and no instruction. I also talked to dennis carpenter and no instructions. I don't want to take it apart and not know what the heck I am doing.

I bought a rebuilt one from CarQuest and NAPA also has them. Completely rebuilt zero hassles.

re: Seal kit for Manual Steering Help Please!
Well, the seal I need for the ms box is where the shaft comes out of the box and connects to the steering column. What If I got the dimensions of the seal and bought one that was the same size?

re: Seal kit for Manual Steering Help Please!
If you hae the box out the seal number is on the seal face. Yes you can get it's dimensions by taking the seal out and giving the bent up old one to a seal and bearing dealer. The seal is not unigue to Ford it is off the shelf. But what shelf is the question. From my NAPA account. Pitman seals but no sector shaft seal

re: Seal kit for Manual Steering Help Please!
I am going to try this evening to get the seal out and take it over to advance auto and let the look at it. Is it hard to get it out and how do I do it?
Here is what I have to work with.

re: Seal kit for Manual Steering Help Please!
Take the whole sector shaft nut off and clean it up and look for the part number. The sector shaft nut is that big nut the seal is in.
Besides you need to see if the shaft is worn bad.

re: Seal kit for Manual Steering Help Please!
I am having a real hard time trying to pop that nut on the top. It also seems like there is a piece of rubber coming up between the nut and shaft. Could you pm me your phone number so I could talk to you? Thanks!

re: Seal kit for Manual Steering Help Please!
Hey kid. Thanks for your help
. I got that nut finally off and looked at the seal. I am going to take it to a local bearing and seal place tomorrow and have them get me one. I looks like it is just a formed piece of rubber. I am almost positive I can get one. One question though, once the nut is off, should I be able to move the entire shaft around inside? Thanks!

re: Seal kit for Manual Steering Help Please!
You have to remove the top cap with the 3 bolts and the pitman shaft before the sector shat comes out and a warning some units are filled with loose ball bearings that run between the gears.

I am not taking the whole shaft out, I am just replacing that one seal. It seems to look ok.

re: Seal kit for Manual Steering Help Please!
Use a moly bearing grease if it is apart ot 75-90 rear axle grease if not. THe moly is what the rebuilt ones have in them.
