painting valve covers

i have my valve coves down to bare metal.. what should i do to make the new paint stick ?? i would like to have them powder coated but no funds right now..thanks for any help .............

I you are going to use high temp paint (recommended) don't do anything. It's formulated to go on bare metal. Primer would flake off and take the paint with it.

Bruce flyboy is right on you should use hi temp paint,after all that work you dont want it to flake off

trust me I have been working for Dupont automotive paint for 15 yrs

this thread makes me want to paint my valve covers black and ford blue.

with the letters blackened, and the rest blue

why not silver letters they might stand out better

I like any kind of paint with ceramic coating mixed in. It's tough and puuurdy. Duplicolor makes a nice one.
