67 door swap

Post by lovemy67F250 »

the Tech tutorial on this is great but I just want to be sure I'm reading it right: I know all the guts are different but can I swap a complete '68-'72 door with all it's appropriate parts into my '67 and have it close properly onto the 67's stock latch?

the recent posting on door alignment was very usual but begs the additional question - am I better off leaving my '67 hinges on the truck or swapping hinges with the donor doors?

My '67 hinge bushings still look to be fairly tight but the handle splines are so trashed that they both got replaced with dedicated vise grips years ago (...came in useful one time when I found myself without a lug wrench...) - seems to be a common problem with the '67 push-to-locks since I've all the other 67's I've looked at for donor parts were pretty much in the same boat.

thanks!

Yes, a complete '68-'72 door assembly is a direct bolt-on replacement for the '67 door.

Why not just replace the door mechanism though, if that's the only problem you have?

i think you can swap entire doors as a unit. including the hinges either way you would want to go.

oh, more than stripped splines - a bit of cancer in one when the drain plugged for too many years, window tracks in both are worn out requiring one hand rocking the windows when you crank and my little brother trashed both the metal panels trying to put speakers in them 25 years ago when I was off to college so new doors would be a step up in the world over what my wifes refers to as the "Frankendoors worthy of a Ted Bundy mobile (no door handles)" - just haven't found any 67's locally in good shape but plenty of later models.

There are a lot of forum members up in your area. I'm sure one of them knows where you can get some decent doors.

So will the doors from a 72 will fit a 69. The drivers door on my 69 needs replacing. It doesn't like to close and it has alot of dings on it. I saw a 72 door for sale. Will it bolt right up?

Yes a 69 and 72 door are the same. You should be ok and it should bolt right up.

Might want to outline where the hinges set in the door so when you install the new one it won't be way out of alignment. Personal experience

all of the doors fit all of the years and they close correctly.
the only differences are the 67 doors and the various inner and outer trim and the type of window seal, rubber or fuzz.

I am going to see if a 61-66 door mechanism can be used in the 67 door.if so then you can have a bigger source.looks about in the same place from the pic, if anyone has one out of a 67 post a pic so i dont have to dig out my 67 door. i already have some of the earlier ones out.

you can ford a river or stream and get to the other side, if you dodge it you will not, and if you drive a chevy to the levee it will run dry and the music will die.
