Windshield gasket Polished stainless...

Post by 70SportCustom »

I have been able to sucessfully remove my stainless trim from around the windshield on my 70 f100 in preparation for painting. I am not planning to remove the windshield as I am going back with the original color. I just wanted to get the paint up real nice and close. My question is has anyone had the experience putting this stuff back in place. in the catalogs they show a windshield gasket with metal clips to attach the mouldings however in my case the mouldings have a j hook that hooks into the rubber of the windshield gasket. anyones expertise will be greatly appreciated. thanks

Unfortunatly I think you have to remove the window to install the trim on the seal.

:yt: While you can remove the trim without removing the glass, to reinstall it is a different story. You'll have to remove the glass and gasket, and install the trim into the gasket first, before reinstalling the glass.

You can do it yourself. You will just need to buy a new rubber. This is the way we have done probably 2 or 3 dozen windshields. Use WD-40 on the gasket and use a good non stretching rope in the gasket after windshield and chrome is installed and set your glass and have someone on the outside to apply slight pressure and pull the rope and the rubber will go right into place. There is a chance on breaking the glass as with anything. But this is the way we do any vehicle with a rubber of this type.
