Door Seal Weatherstripping

Post by blue68 »

I just installed some new inside door seal weatherstripping on my truck. They were kind of hard to put on, because you have to hold them up there so long. Anyways, they look awesome, and I have no real complaints. The only thing that seems weird is that I now have to slam my doors shut really hard because the seal causes them not to shut as easy. They shut easy as pie before I put them on. What should I do?

That's actually the most common comment from folks who have just replaced those seals. Be patient....over time the seals will start to give in a little and won't require slamming the door. In the meantime, you can adjust your door strikers out just a little bit, although it might mean the trailing edge of the door won't be in flush with the rest of the cab.

I would just slam it just enough to get her closed. Where did you get the stripping from?

Well, They are NOS peices that my father had up in his attic (dry area). They were still taped up in the Ford box. There are little air holes drilled in them from the factory, and that helps a little. I have left my pass. door shut all day today in hot sun exposure, and it seems like by doing that it has squished the molding some, allowing that door to shut more like it used to. Maybe these things just have a break in time or something. i'll be patient. Thanks everyone.

Alittle time is all it takes mine shut harder at first but now I just close them lightly and they shut better than some newer doors and sound better too. oh plus no air or road noise like before 8)

Nothing like new door weather strips on an old vehicle. A few weeks of opening and shutting the doors will have her back to normal.

I think they are defective. You should take them off without damaging them and mail them to me :D
