Chemical dipping?

anyone tried chemical dipping to remove paint and rust?

i seen a car show once where they used paint stripper right on the main body of the old 50 something car.

i have head there are companies that will dip body panels, fenders, hoods. It completly cleans them of paint and rust. I need to find a place here in utah to do that.

Yes there is a company here in michigan called IPS (international paint stripping) I had alot of pieces for my short bed stripped there, the pieces come back beautiful.
the only downside is the amount of work to get it back ready to paint and get all the cracks sealed back so they dont rust.
all the body caulk and everything will be gone when you get it back.
Which is actually a good thing because you can metal prep it prime it with epoxy and recaulk so you know everything is sealed

this place here is big enough that they can do whole car bodies or truck beds or whatever,

That is the only bad thing is the body sealing but if your going to that much trouble then just use a good primer.

The down sides to chemical dipping are cost and time prepping after it's done. If you don't get every drop of chemicals out of the nooks and crannies, paint won't stick. This then leads to rapid rust, which is what you are trying to avoid in the first place. I would seriously think about not using chem dips for parts with lots of nooks and crannies. Media blasting is another option. Yes, getting all the media out is sometimes hard, but at least you don't have a corrosive chemical sitting there for years eating away your body.
