How do I remove my rear leaf springs?

Post by RandyBee1 »

I have the bed off my shortbed F100 to do some rust prevention work. I'm going to replace the leaf spring bushings while I'm at it. Is there anything I need to be aware of before I do this? It looks to be pretty simple but I thought I'd ask first! Thanks... Randy B.

Lots of PB Blaster (NOT WD-40) to loosen up the rust. Other than that, it's as simple as it looks. The bolts will probably be difficult to drive out because of corrosion inside the bushings, so just work them back and forth instead of just trying to power them out with the hammer, or you'll end up having to replace them because you mushroomed the ends.

Make sure you unload the suspension and only do 1 end at a time.

What's the best way to do that?

By lifting the back end up from the frame. You don't want to lift the rear tires off the ground, but probably want it up about half the way.

Thanks, Keith. I'll make sure to do that when I pull the 9" and springs out.
