Disc brakes over stock spindles

Post by JB4020 »

I did do a search on this but i still have some questions. I would like do put discs on the front of my '71 f-100 2wd and i was wondering if there was a kit made that would go over my stock spindles. This is the only kit i've seen but they say it is only for up '65-'70. http://www.abspowerbrake.com/AbsCatalogPag-088.jpg
Would this kit work? Thanks in advance.

Or you can get a 73-79 with power brackes and do like im doing to my 71 F100.Taking out the frontend out of the 73-79 and put it under the 71.

That looks like the Scarebird Engineering set up. I am looking at a set up of theirs for my 64 Falcon Sprint. It uses a laser cut metal bracket to bolt to the original spindle then uses store bought rotors from a 80-90's Ranger and calipers from a Cadillac. Seems like a straight forward set up for the Sprint and easier to find than the Granada set up that is another option.
BUT, for the F100 it is just as easy to find a doner 73-79 F100-F150 to get all of the disc brake stuff off of. You can get all of the rotors, calipers, brakes hoses and pads from your local suto store.
If you make the right deal on a doner truck you can sometimes sell off the remainder of it for a profit.

for just getting the hubs to fit all you need is the right sized bearings. to get the calipers to fit you need a bracket like the ones they have shown. it also depends on wheather you have a early or late built 71. there was a change to something on the steering on the 71 models.
