VIN on the door..?

Post by James »

Hey, I was wondering if some of the stuff on my truck was original..(Motor, transmission, those gears in the pumpkin)

I think the truck has 100% of it's body, or very close to it, it was coated Yellow it seems, the bed has this, the outer fenders, inner fenders, both doors, cab, dash(Some repainted pretty sloppy and it's coming off now)

Well, it's the original VIN tag, but I was looking at the page to try to decipher some of it, but I didn't get too far :( I got lost after I started getting to the end, but here's all the numbers as they're on the tag.

F10GEK60389
115 F103 3 3 G AI
04500 148 4000 161530

Any help would be appreciated.

James, your numbers decode as follows:
VIN= F10 (F100 2wheel drive)
G (302 engine with 2bbl carb)
E (built at Mawah, NJ plant)
K6 (built in Dec 1970)
0389 ( sequential serail number of the 390th truck)

Bottom Line:
115 = wheelbase in inches (115 is a short wheelbase)
?? = color code (not on your list..should be 1 or 2 characters)
F103 = F100, 2wheel drive
3 = Interior color (Pastel Parchment Vinyl)
3 = Flareside
G = Automatic transmission
A1 = 3.25 gear ratio (Ford Limited Slip)
04500 = Gross vehicle weight
148 = Horsepower
4000 = RPM at HP rating
16 = District Code (Philadelphia)
1530 = Direct Special Order number

I hope this helps. You can relate this information to the Deciphering Your V.I.N Numbers for the '71, on the FORDification home page. There is an example picture of a door tag there also.
Good luck,
Steve

Hm, well, the motor's definitely not original(Knew that before, 351 Windsor), It does have an automatic transmission(C6)

Dash is painted red( Not much of a surprise, whoever painted the exterior black and interior red was sloppy)

Would a flare-side count as a step-side bed?

No clue about the 3.25 gear ratio, there's no aluminum tag on the pumpkin anywhere..But at least this gives me an idea of what it might be, thanks.
