4:10 gears
I found out today that my truck is a special order truck, came w/c6 tranny dana60 4:10 gears, then some dumb,a$$, pulled the auto and put in a 4 speed w/granny low, best I can figure it's the T-18 tranny, it runs about 3000 RPMs when cruisin down the road it's time to put my auto back in it.

Won't change anything unless you put an overdrive in it. Any non-overdrive transmission standard or auto, have a 1 to 1 ratio when in high gear.

Yep. I had 4:10's myself, I switched to 3:73s. Didn't help much, dropped my RPM by 200 on the freeway. I should have gone with 3:55s.

Or some really tall tires.

Guys,
Remember when discussing gear ratios, you must consider tire size.
a 4.11:1 in an F-100 with a 28" tire and a 4.11:1 in an F-250/350 with a 33" tire are two different animals.

Ive grown to like my 3.70 gears. Cruises nicely at 65. Like the torque.

re: 4:10 gears
Im definetly changing my to a 3.55 from 4.10 for less wear and tear and better milage plus more highway speed the motor makes up for less gear

re: 4:10 gears
May I ask what the primary purpose of the truck is?
If it's for hauling, pulling loads, and other related work you may be better off staying with the 4:10's.
If it's a daily driver, then go to 3:55's.

If you have a stout motor go with the 3.55 it will still haul anything you need to haul.

Tranny w/a Granny
Ok guys, i'm a first timer, so you know what they say about stupid questions. I have the same setup, 4:10 rears, tranny w/a granny, 360mtr,(i'm rebuilding her to be a little more stout), so if i change to a c-6, i'll still have the same problem even if i change to 3:55's? The reason i'm asking is, i'm thinking of buying a 5th wheel trlr, i'm in a delima
can ya'll help, any and all will be greatly appreciated.
Jeff
