opinion about floor

Post by 67heavystepside »

going to be putting a new wood floor in the bed of my step side. my father-in-law put a floor in it 15 years ago with pressure treated 7/8"ply wood. i want to go with the plywood, what my problem is plywood comes 4'x8', my bed wall to wall is 4'8", 4' fender hump to fender hump. should i cut the sheet in half long ways, and put an 8" strip down the center. or put the sheet to one side and put the strip on the other side. i know factory was separate boards.

I would go with the seam in the middle with turning the sheets sideways. A shory piece is gonna wanna buckle and warp and be a weak link in the floor.

Buy two sheets and put one seam down the middle.

it sounds like yall are talking about useing 2 sheets. cut anf fit 1 to one side, then cut and but it up to the other for the other side. did't think about it that way.

I'd center the full 4x8 sheet of plywood, and use 4" strips of hardwood on the sides. That would look good. Id leave a 1/2" gap between the ply and the two sidepieces so it would drain!

I'm not sure what is in pressure treated plywood but there is salt in pressure treated wood and it will advance rust on any parts that are under it. My fathers bed was restored over 15 years ago with yellow pine boards, treated yearly with burnt motor oil and is still going strong.

Id get one of those long red oak boards from Leowes and rip it to the correct widths. Shouldnt rot or warp.
