66 & 67 F100 tail lights the same size?
I am working on my LED tail light project for my 67 F100 and thought I'd rather use the 66 model tail lights because they do not have the back up light portion in them. Does any one know if the if they will interchange? I'd hate to buy some just to find out. Thanks Charles

I believe they are different. '67 thru '72 are the same. '66 and earlier will not fit. The confusion with this arises because the 1966 bronco shared the same taillights as the 1966 Ford trucks, and then continued with that style taillight until 1977.

67F100, Thanks for your reply. They look exact in all the pictures I can find but I,m just not sure. I,ll just find a plastic supply Company here and get a piece of red and make my own then. Thanks again Charles

Actually, they are the same.
I have a '71 p'up bed trailer that has a '66 or so bed on it. I was curious, so I pulled a taillight off and swapped with one on my truck. Perfect fit.
My trailer for clarity.

Thanks for checking that N7HO, I thought they were the same. Hey I think it looks better than the correct one on your truck!
That's a nice trailer you got! A '66 two-tone Custom Cab Camper Special bed.

N7HO, Thanks a million for doing that. Great pictures and those side by side shots really tell all. I like your trailor as well. Looks like it would haul a load of fire wood and with out any problem. I wanted the 66 model tail lights because it is all red to put Led lights behind for this tail light project I have been thinking of. The lights I have are to long to put in the short space of the 67 because of the back up clear portion but it will fit fine in the 66 tailight. Thanks again, I can get this project moving again now as soon as I get some 66 tail light lens. Charles

No problem, happy to be of help.
Yes that trailer can haul a load of firewood and then some. The trailer chassis was given to me by a good friend who passed away from lung cancer a few years ago. His middle name must've been overkill. He originally had a flatbed on it and he built it so he could haul all of his tools when he moved down from Alaska. The whole way down, he kept blowing out tires from the weight he had on it. The bed was later given to me from the same guy I bought my truck from.
If you notice, it has the original F250 suspension, then it has rather large coil overload springs (a little hard to see), and then the spring shocks. I've never been able to bottom this thing out. For brakes, he rigged up a flex line to go between his truck and the trailer to operate the drum brakes.
This trailer tows very nice. No sway, and you can barely tell you're towing anything, loaded or not. You look in the mirror, and it's a straight line down both beds.
Someday, I want to find a '70-'72 bed that matches my truck.

He must have had a LOT of tools to blow out tires on that thing. Assuming he put heavy tires on it the same way he built it that would be Load range E. The load range E tires on my 05 F350 are rated at 3,640 single so 2 times that is 7,280. And I know they will haul more than that with out blowing, so if the trailor weights in at 600-800# thats 7280-800=6,480 of load with out blowing. Man that thing must have been loaded down heavy. I never saw leaves, coils and coil overs on the same rig until now and I guess with his brake set up he didnt unhook until he got here. Well I,m glad you have the heaviest rated trailor in your state for a single axle rig and that would look so sharp to have that matching bed painted and trimmed exactly like your truck. I'd like to see that going down the road sometime. Good luck and thanks for your help on the tail lights and for sharing those trailor pictures. Charles

Well, this man had tools. Lots of tools. He said when he got into town, he stopped and used one of the mill scales, and the trailer + load was a little over 10,000Lbs. I'm not sure if he was pulling my leg, but seeing the setup he used....
And of course, the truck that pulled it....Modified Ford F250.

re: 66 & 67 F100 tail lights the same size?
I grew up on a East Texas farm and have had several flats on single axle heavily loaded trailors. I'm referring to a 4k# load of feed behind a new 68 F250 with 4k in it. It was just 6 miles to the feed store and we never drove home faster than 45. Why hurry? We just had to unload the feed when we got there. Just the thought of a 10k# single axle trailor flat scares me. Our old feed trailor was an old f350 stock running gear with a 9' narrow bed on it. Old 12 ply 750-16s with split rims. Bet I have changed 100 flats on them. We just backed the tractor back tire on it and shot the air to it. Never had one blow. First new tires (recaps)I ever bought with my own money I just backed up to the barn and unloaded them and started pulling wheels off my truck. My dad came out and said "why didnt you let them put them on?" I said " they do that?" I didnt have clue any one would mount them for you or why you would let them

Well, I know they make hydraulic quick connectors, but I think in his case it was a one time deal. He built the trailer just so he could move down from Alaska, and then he never really used it again after he was here. And I don't know exactly what he did to the truck's brake system to accommodate the extra set of brakes. His vehicles were known for souped up engines and interesting modifications. You'd have to have met him. He was very smart and could make almost anything. He was a good man and is missed.

FordMan, Just a thought but those hydralic quick disconnects used on tractor implements mite just work, they are designed to hold both ends full of fluid when hooked up and unhooked. The receiver on the tractor is a hard mount and the hose end goes to the equipment.
