Had another weekend to get some work done on the truck. I focused on getting the wiring harness installed whie my Dad was working on other items around the truck.

This is where I spent a good portion of the weekend, at a table soldering connections. I had the old wiring harness that had most of the connectors I needed. I made sure the connector was in good shape, cut it from the old harness then matched up wires to the new harness and soldered them together. Pretty straight forward, just took some time looking at diagrams to make sure I was conecting the correct wires. The only major item I didn't have a connector for was the gauge cluster which I just used spade connectors for instead. This will make it a little more difficult to take out in the future but hopefully I won't have to do that very often.
Image

Here I was just starting to the get harness in the truck. I connected and installed the gauge cluster first and installed most of the switches. I then ran the cables up under the dash and finally mounted the fuse panel once I was happy with how everything was going. I left probably a little too much wire in some places but I wanted to have enough in case I had to work on any of the connections later.
Image

Most of the harness installed, I just have to make a couple final connection from the brake and backup light switch as well as the heater motor. We did get the heater mounted though with the hoses ran. As you can see I mounted the fuse panel up near the parking brake. I am not sure exactly where the old panel was mounted but I liked this location so I can get to it and it shouldn't see much heat since directly behind it is the front wheel well and not the engine compartment. As you can see I don't have a firewall cover yet. I don't plan on buying a stock cover due to the price but will add some heat/sound shield at some point when I do the carpet.

Testing the gauge lights, I added a tach on the side of the steering column.

Got both door windows installed.
Image

Everything to run the engine is connected at this point. The battery and alternator are both installed with a custom bracket my Dad had made.
Image

Also had some time to get the grill mounted, finishes off the front end quite a bit. I still need to connect the all of the lights but the wires are all in place.
Image

The engine was basically ready to start but we wanted to wait until the guy who rebuilt it to come over since it has been sitting for awhile. Hopefully he can make it over soon and then once it stops snowing my plan is to bring it out to my house in Madison, I can't wait!!

The main things we have left are to install some new tires, exhaust system, new bumpers, finish the wiring and install the interior finishing touches.

Thanks. The bucket seats are out of a 2000 Dodge Dakota. I am still deciding if I am going to use the center console that came with them or make a custom one instead. The Dakota is a bit narrower so there is a gap between the seats and console that doesn't look great. I also have to get some covers for the seats.

Big weekend for the truck. We started it up for the first time ever. Check out the videos I posted over in the video forum. The guy that rebuilt the engine came over to help start it up. No major issues after we got it primed with oil and then got fuel to it.

Another big day for the truck. I used uship.com and had the truck shipped from my parent's house (where it has been for 10 years) out to my house in Madison. No more long weekends working on the truck back in Michigan, I can actually work on it in my garage. I made some good progress on the wiring this week. Just have to connect the lights and I can drive it around.

Thanks guys. I can hardly wait to get it on the road. It still needs the exhaust installed and new tires once I finish the wiring. I am hoping to finish up a lot of my stuff this weekend.

Yes, Madison is a nice area. Moved here about 4 years ago and enjoy it. The winters are not much fun. I am originally from Michigan and even there was a bit warmer in the winter. Especially this winter was brutal here.
