start the truck and let it run. spray some carb cleaner around the carb base and aroudn the edges of the intake where it meets the head. if the engine revs up you have found a vacuum leak. do you have power brakes? if so unplug the vacuum line to it and see if that makes it stop doing that. it could be the brake booster has a vacuum leak also.

hey whats up man i have the same problem in my carburetor i have a 302 engine, it will star good but when you rev about 1000 revolutions it will stumble and then if a prees more it will be ok, sometimes will stumble and shut down, what i did i opened the carb it is the same one that u have and checked all jets holes and there was one jet that wasnt totaly clogled but it was i took every jet and clean the inside be carefull dont mess with sticking needles to get out the cloged soak it in carb cleaner then blow on it if is hard use and guitar string to push it out, clean the base of the carb from inside and change fuel filters , i will recomend clean ur fuel tank if is stock tank it must be very dirty.

I'll check for vacuum leaks again. i did that technique before works great. Good tips Chirrin. I did a quick clean out i should probably try the guitar string idea. No power brakes but yes to original tank... could be a lot of buildup. bowls look good tho no visible debris.

Ok well all i have to say is point's suck. Of all the car's i've owned i've never had to deal with points problems like this. So essentially what was wrong was the spring separated from the point arm. I would have been more speculative of the distributor had it not been a new (rebuilt) unit. I would have assumed they would put a part in there that would last longer than 5 months. I still have not verified that is my only problem left on the truck but at least i verified one of the major problems. Thanks again for the help in troubleshooting this.
