My grandparents used to tell everyone about how CXalifornia alone produced 50% of the worlds supply of food. Back before the wall to wall city thing happening in California.

Actually, it's just ethanol - grain alcohol that they add to gasoline. You're probably thinking of methanol.

They quit making VWs in Mexico (Puebla) in 2003. In the 80s a lot of folks would smuggle them into the US and a few would import them legally. The real cost wasn't the smog control - it was all of the DOT stuff (windows, lights and so on). I remember a couple of guys in El Paso that used to bring them up to U.S. standard for importation and the buyers; final price was still significantly lower than the U.S. retail. I've owned five of the little guys myself!

I think I am going to start a vacation fund drive so I can go down there in a couple of years and see whats there, looking through their version of ebay I seen a 81 galaxie that looked like a 67 or 68 fullsixe mercury. It looks like the 73-79 body style was skipped down there and I seen one that looked like the 78/79 bronco but with the 67 to 72 body,I think its time to start emailing Ford about this and demand answers. I don't know the politics. I think ford America sells off their old dies to Brazil. I had hear they made 63 Fairlanes for about 20 years down there. I bet this is just the tip of the iceburg. The 57-60 models were warmed over still in 69 so you know they were doing it to cars too. I think they made the last old style VW beetle down there last year.
The MWM 229 diesel seems to be a common engine, the 69 had it too. I bet their screamers, probably 100-110 horsepower.

Very cool find. Did you guys know that Mexico just stopped production of the VW beetle? Not the new one, you know, Herbie!!!! I saw that in a Sonora, Mexico newspaper a couple years back. I was wondering why I saw so many "nicely restored" bugs with Mexican license plates!!!

Does anybody think we should e-mail FORD and ask them. I would be willing to do it if I knew an e-mail address and what to put in the e-mail.

Speaking of gas diesel etc.. Why don't cars burn Kerosene or gasohal (sp), put the lead back in fuel!!!!

Have you seen the price of Kerosene? Actually it is just a more refined version of diesel fuel. %0 years or so ago the farmers got a fuel caller power fuel. It was a mix of gasoline and kerosine. The tractors had a small tank for straight gas so you could warm it up, had shutters over the radiator to keep it war too, then you switched over to power fuel. I think you also had to switch back to straight gas before you shut it off.
I had seen tetraethyle lead addative you can buy. I saw it in Hemmings classifieds a couple years back.

You would think Ford would want to support the current owners of the most beautiful pickup trucks ever made :D

So, maybe I should buy a 1992 F1000, bring it back and put a '67 grill on it and have a new '67!!! Nah, that would be to easy and no fun. Wrenching on these old trucks is half the fun! It would be pretty cool though!! Someone said something about the F100 nats, I can't believe one never popped up before!! :hmm:

Cool thread. That is one hideous looking F-100/Econoline mutant thing-a-ma-jig. The cost to travel or import NOS parts from South America would be astronomical unless a member here has an wickid offshore power boat and frequently travels the waters between Florida and SA. :shh: .

This doesn't surprise me. Does anyboby here read Car And Driver? A few issues back there was an artical titles "The Cars That Could Save Ford". Outlining three hot veichles produced in Austrialia but nothing similar in the US. Maby you could pass this along to Dennis Carpenter who buys several "lots" of NOS parts. They somtimes bid on Ebay and Forclosed dealers and might have the resources to have these parts available in the US.
