Early Grille on '70+ Truck

Hey, Darkstar.

Yeah, I think they are worth the money. They certainly go along way to clean up a used, if not dinged up too bad, grille. I paid $65 for each one. It is what it is. I can't imagine finding a pair of unmolested NOS ones for less than half that.

What do you guys think?

Here's my 72' with a 67' grille

To you who did put the earlier style grille on the the 70s bumps, did you have to make any modifications. I thought I saw somewhere where you needed to drill another hole or something. Also, did you already have your turn signal lenses or did you find some on-line.

I have removed the aluminum piece that mounts to the lip of the hood. To me, it only belongs on a 70-72. I'm not saying that be a purist--it's just that the top line matches the very bottom line of the 70-72 grilles. I even think 70-72 grilles look fine without it, though I see how it finishes off. But over a 67-69 I think it' just one line too many.





NOW, what I think I'm gonna do next it black out the vertical lines. Whaddya think?

I agree ThreeTruckMan. I took off the aluminum piece that mounts on the hood as well but ended up mounting it back because the screw holes bugged me too much. Then I ended up convincing myself that the aluminum piece compliments the chrome bumper with the blacked out grille.

And hillcountryflt, Mine bolted up with no modifications at all. It all lined up and bolted down as solid as the original. I did notice though that my original 72' grille uses more bolts than what is on the 67' but that doesn't affect the installation. I got the turn signal lenses with the package at a picknpull. I was worried at first that the turn signals wouldn't connect to my wiring but thankfully they used the same connectors for 67 and 72.

Cool on mounting right up. I am envisioning a couple things in regards to my painted 68 grille on my 71 f100. Two-tone the truck with just the cab top painted a lighter color and paint the grille the same color and finding a painted bumper that I can paint the same as the grille. Of course, I would do away with the chrome piece on the lip of the hood. But that is months away. Somehow I ended up with three of one side of the headlight doors and one of the other side.

As you can see (or at least I do because I've been dealing in grilles for 8 years) the lower valance on ThreeTruckMan76 truck is from a 70-72 If you want a clean look replace the lower valance with the one from the same year grille your going to use. Most people will not catch it, but there are some that spot it right away.
Regardless it is a clean swap and looks very nice. Good job ThreeTruckMan76
