re: RIMS AND TIRES??? HELP!

Post by thebttmline »

I have a 68 3/4 ton, mine is a highboy.... I have 265/75's all the way round
I'm running 285/75's on my highboy. That is about a 33 inch tire - which makes it a big step up into the thing. My kids like having to climb in.
I'm not having any problems with rubbing.

"Highboy" was the name that folks gave to the F-250 4x4's. It was not an official name from Ford. The Highboy's sat taller - and they came that way from the factory.
As I understand it, sometime around 1977, Ford started making the F-250 4x4 the same height as the F-150 4x4, so there were no more Highboys after that.

Firestone had some problems and got some bad press a few years back, but they have some good tires now. If you haven't already, check out tirerack.com for specs and reviews on their A/T tires. The top 2 tires are Bridgestone/Firestone. The Destination A/T ranks hire than some of the more popular ones like BFGoodrich.

"Firestone had some problems and got some bad press a few years back, but they have some good tires now."

Most of the problems Firestone had was the media over reacted as usual. The problem was customers not keeping the tire pressures at the correct setting and then hauling ass down the freeway with heavy SUV's which caused the tires to overheat and fail. This was not Firestones fault but the consumers fault but Firestone (and Ford for that matter) lost out because of the Media's BS.

It simply amazes me how often I see people driving down the road with under inflated tires. If you looked around while driving down the road you will see at least one car a day with obviously low tire pressures. My wife and I own a M/C shop and I can't tell you how many times I have customers come in with a bike and ask me to ride it because it is doing this or that and I jump on it and don't even get out of the parking lot because I can tell the tires are low. I have had people ride in totaly oblivious with 8 lbs of air in their tires!

Just amazes me.

Ok...So what size of tires is everyone running on their 3/4 tons>stock suspension.
And what in your opinion are the best bang for your buck if you do mostly hi-way driving?
Can a guy use a passenger rated tire on a truck if he doesnt plan to haul anything overly heavy?
driving a 1968 Mercury Camper Special that needs a lil facelift
