Yes, I meant that I should have the one that you need to make this work. Because these are common, you should be able to pick one up locally but if not, I do normally have these in stock (although I have been very busy and have not checked yet!). I specialize in pulleys and brackets and have thousands of Ford V8 pulleys in stock (my buddies call me the "pulley king"!). Hawkrod

Hawkrod - thanks for the offer but a 3 groove pulley just arrived in the mail. Also got the new rag joint I ordered. Going out to play with truck right now.

Re: Power Steering Pump Pulley
Did the PS install today. Fired it up and hear loud screeching. Pulley issue again! latest crank pulley sent d3te-6312-ab is 3/8" larger diameter than the correct one (looked it up and it is for 73-76 engines). Dan stikes again! He had assured me this was a good later part number replacement and I took his word for it
Pulley was just touching fan pulley (couldn't see that when installing from underneath truck). What a nightmare!

Re: Power Steering Pump Pulley
clean the grooves with sand paper. and tighten the belt more. or is it rubbing on the other pulley the problem?

Re: Power Steering Pump Pulley
Yes, the 2 pulleys were rubbing each other. With the belt off, the fan was still spinning like it was "direct drive". Pretty amazing... if the crank pulley was a slightly bigger I would noticed trying to put it on- slightly smaller they would not touch each other.
Here is Dan's email back after I told him what happened:
OK, Yes the pulley will work and yes it is a 73-76 part number replacing the earlier part number like we had discussed, I just did not have the early three grove part number in stock only in the two grove with the space in between the two groves. I have been rebuilding and selling ford trucks and parts for 25 years and have only seen a FE pulley set touch (regardless of the combination) if the water pump was shot or it had a early six cylinder water pump pulley on it and in about three different cases a poor quality aftermarket water pump. The two pulleys come very close (thousands of a inch sometimes) if the water pump bearings are worn then they can touch. A good way to test is with no tension on the WP pulley and see if it moves up or down at all. Or you can also give me the outer dimensions of both pulleys and I can try to find a better match. -Dan
I let Dan know: my 69 390 with no AC calls for C8AZ-8509-A (single sheave 7 15/64"). Measured mine that is on truck with a ruler and it is slightly over 7".
Edit - put on that original 4 groove cast pulley he sent me to test out the power steering. Seems to be working - taking the truck out for a spin to road test.

Re: Power Steering Pump Pulley
I kept quiet because I did not want to get in the middle of this while you were conduction a transaction but unfortunately Dan is mistaken about the D3TE-6312-AB and rubbing. I could have told you it would rub before you put it on. The D3TE-6312-AB is a laregr diameter pulley only used on trucks with AC and it is about 7 5/16 in diameter. It also has a much too large front pulley that will spin the PS pump too fast which will eventually cause it to fail. The D3TE-6312-AB requires the smaller diameter water pump pulley and if you use it you also need to change the PS pulley. The only pulleys that will work correctly are a C8AE-6312-C and a C8AE-6312-D which are 6 and 21/32 in diameter so they will not rub and the PS belt groove is only 6 5/32 as opposed to the 7 5/16 inches of the D3TE-6312-AB. I am afraid that Dan was absolutely wrong when he told you it was a later replacement as that is not true at all. He may have been selling parts for 25 years but he is not familiar with these and he was not being honest when he told you that is a replacement for the earlier number. Hawkrod

Re: Power Steering Pump Pulley
Thanks Hawkrod for the response. Dan seems like he is trying to do the right thing - he has sent me 6 or 7 packages so far trying to get a set a working parts together to complete the PS kit. One of the packages had a bracket meant for somebody else ( my address and different name). He is sending the correct "C" pulley next. He should of sent it in the first place and we would of avoided a lot of hassles.
