Re: knock kneed f250
yes . and i dont know why i didnt post it. or think aboutit. jack up the rear or front have the front locked in. turn the tire and count the rotation of the tire and the rotation of the drivesahft. for every turn single turn of the driveshaft you could the numebr of turns of the tire. and that gives you a very close count of the ratio. such as 3.54 would and could seem like 3.50.

I would look for any (Dana 44 or 60) front axle out of a 77.5-79 F250. Of course making sure the ratio is right and your not buying another project axle. Thats my opinion. I have ran both with good results.

Re: knock kneed f250
ok so i jacked up the rear end today marked the tire and 1 u joint cap. spun the tire 1 time either direction, driveline spun roughly 2 revolutions. i had to hold 1 tire still inorder to get it to spin. so if i did this right and from what i understand of how to do this from others input i would have 4.10 gears correct?

I'm no expert but your front bumper and winch are similar to mine. Infact the closest I've seen. I have the 44 under the front and 60 on the back. My truck was a firetruck and hauled a crap load of weight on the back. In fact I'm pretty sure the spring set up on the back actually came off a 350 or better. But my front end seems to be holding up fine. So maybe save a little money and go with the 44? I'd actually say the weight on the front of mine is somewhat more than yours. One of these days I'll channel out some of mine. It used to be a stand on deck for fireman so they could spray water from the front of the truck while driving the fire lines.

I did go with a dana 44. I ended up purchaseing one out of a 76 high boy with front disc brakes. Out of curiousity what thickness is the metal that your bemper is made out of?ROBT257 wrote:I'm no expert but your front bumper and winch are similar to mine. Infact the closest I've seen. Suppose to pick it up tomorrow from the brake shop. I'll put a tape on it.

Almost everything you buy from that vintage is a project axle, right now I am just gritting my teeth and blowing money hoping the upgrade is worth it.Doug Comer wrote:I would look for any (Dana 44 or 60) front axle out of a 77.5-79 F250. I ended up finding a dana 44 out of a 76 highboy. so far i just have to switch the brake components over and possibly change out the u-joint in the knuckle on one of the knuckles but other then that she appeared fine to me. But then again I'm not a pro at axles yet.
