My F350 has Bias ply tire with tubes. Max inflation is 60 and I keep them there. One day I'll upgrade to radials, but it is hard for me to replace 6 tires that still have plenty of tread on them.

I finally found a 1-1/16 socket today and of course the lug nuts were tightened by an air wrench so it's going to be tough for a 58 year old guy like me to remove them. Just to make sure, when removing the driver's side rear ones which have the left hand thread I'm going to be trying to turn them clockwise-right? The passenger side rear and both front wheels have a normal right hand thread so they get turned counter-clockwise. Will spraying the lugs with WD40 help any or should I just beat the hell out of the ratchet with a hammer to loosen them? Any suggestions that would make this job easier (besides getting someone else to do it) would be appreciated.... :hd:

Lebowski,
Yes, you'd be turning the driver's side lugs clockwise (unless someone had already replaced the left hand studs there). I'd recommend using a 1/2" drive breaker bar with an extension (round bar works well for me). I'd always been told not to ever use oil on wheel studs, (but I've also always put a drop or two on the first lug nut threads when re-installing with no adverse affects).

You have your directions right. As Jeff said, you will be much better off using a longer wrench or a pipe over the wrench you have rather than a hammer. More leverage is better, less destructive, and probably safer than a hammer. Left hand threaded studs usually have an "L" stamped into the end.

I'm not sure what a breaker bar is. Is it similar to a 4 way lug wrench?

I hauled home 9 scoops of aged horse manure today (about 20 miles) with no problems. There's approx. 1000 truckloads of the stuff at the horse farm I got it at so I'll probably be going back there again. It's priced right too-free....

It's simply a long round bar that you can slide over your 1/2" drive ratchet end, (used for leverage).

I have a buddy who just got some for his flower bed too, smells real nice!

UPS delivered my valve stem extenders today and I just finished putting them on the truck. I had an extra piece of top fence rail about 3 feet long which worked out great as a breaker bar. The tip about the driver's side rear being left hand thread really helped too. The right side tires each had 100 psi and the left side each had 70, and the max is supposed to be 80 so should I put all four at 70 or 80 or leave them the way they are? Thanks again for the help.... :hd:

Sad to say I found this out the hard way...I still have one broken stud there on mine!

Mine had 2 broken studs on the left rear when I got it. The first time I took the left rear Wheels off, I was having a heck of a time loosening the nuts when I remembered my cousin telling me about finding the left hand threads the hard way on his '66 F350 DRW.

Mine has one broken lug on each side but it's nothing to worry about, is it? I've already hauled a couple of loads of 3-4 tons each with no problems....
