When I bought my '68 CS years ago it had a Holley 650 w/a manual choke and vaccume secondaries. i'm not sure of the model number
I'm not sure how long it had been on the truck, but after my having it about 5 years I replaced the Holley 650 with the exact replacement ... that was 17 years ago now... I've never had any problems with it... except that one little tab broke off the choke mechanism. I found one on Craigslist for $10.
Even after letting the truck sit for 6-7 years, I primed the carb and it fired right up, that was about 3 years ago.

I don't know about other areas, but they're not putting ethanol in all of the gas in NC.
When they DO put ethanol in it, they always dispense it from a specific pump.

Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???

The Exxon near me outside of Huntersville puts ethanol in all of their gas in every pump. I was putting gas in my 71 one day and smelled that Ethanol and started looking. One very little new sticker on the pump saying that this gas contains ethanol.
You would think the price would have gone down but of course it didn't
Love them Holleys

Another one for Holley. I put a brand new Edlebrock 750 on a Mustang i had a few years ago and it just wouldnt run it. It was fine for just driving around but if you stood on it you might as well get out and walk. Had it on for 3 days when i got out run by my neighbors chevy pickup. Went straight home and put the 750 Holley back on. Problem solved
I give edelbrock my vote, unless it's all out racing. I've had this 500 on my 300 for 3 years now. I had a 750 on a 351C-4V a few years back, and no real trouble, They seem to have nicer part throttle control over the Holleys I had. Tuning isnt that hard, just read the manual.

Don't care for Holleys myself, they are simple though. IMO, the quadrajet is hands down, the best all around carb ever designed. The 2100 & 4100 autolites are the most dependable.

Like I said earlier
This topic comes up all of the time and will never be decided. Somebody will get mad and the topic will probably be locked. . It is like Do you like red heads or blonds? Beer or whiskey? Ford or Chevy?
There is not a right answer. There is no wrong answer. It is a matter of preference.
You won't see many Edelbrocks on the drag strip. You will see them on the road.
