I hear ya. I spent many hours scrubbing off primer that PO's had sloshed on there. I used rags, scrub pads, and laquer thinner. With enough scrubbing the aftermarket paint will polish right off. As for the missing grill pieces may I suggest finding a trashed donor grill, taking the right pieces and glueing them in there carefully with epoxy. If you got the touch it will be almost invisible.
I started using carburetor cleaner; it actually takes the primer right off, but since I was doing the whole grill it was going to take a lot! The chemical paint remover worked great. As for the grill, I actually have already aquired some pieces from a smashed grill at the boneyard. We'll see if I have the skills to do something with them! :lol:
