re: Almost time for some paint!
mine must be an oddball or something then. I have tried two flat heads, one on either side at the same time. It wont hardly move at all. I will go out now and look once more.
edit: went out, tried again, nothing. Maybe I am misunderstanding everyone or something, I dont have a clue. Keith said to get a flat head under the square aluminum piece and lift, but don't pry it up. I have it under there and try lifting with no luck. I have the screw driver at either side of it, lifting up, with the end of the screw driver between the soft gasket or whatever, and the aluminum bezel. Does the part that has the antenna "bearing" in it come off first? The piece that covers the pivot or whatever....
This is such an easy thing, and it's not working. I feel retarded haha.

It's not an oddball, you have the same kind of antenna that I do. That metal bezel just snaps onto the black plastic base. Just lift up one end of it with the screwdriver and it'll pop right off.

Im lifting about as hard as I can haha. Off to try once more. It's really getting to me now.FORDification wrote:It's not an oddball, you have the same kind of antenna that I do. I just don't want to lift so hard it breaks it. It already flexes the metal of the cowl.

Then you might be getting the screwdriver under the edge of the black colored base. The only piece to come off will be the metal piece. I believe it has two indentations in it to help it stay on. Look closely and you will see how it just snaps off and on. If you are prying that hard, someone must have glued it on. I am sure there will be pictures for you soon. Good luck.

Everything is loose, I can turn the whole antenna assembly a bit, but it just will NOT come out.

Just above the bezel there aren't a couple machined flats that you could put a wrench on are there? If the entire thing turns, it doesn't sound like you've got the factory antenna. You may have a collar nut on there to unscrew to take it out. Those cheezy bezels sure won't put up with much prying before they fold right up.

thats what I was thinking...I don't think I have the stock antenna. If it had four screws in it, it wouldn't turn circles like it does.

Sometimes that antenna piece (bezel) gets a bit stuck. Just carefully pry it and it will pop off. Same with the wipers. I always have trouble getting them on and off because of the lateral pressure from the blade spring. Anyhow, protect your surface with a little piece of wood or something and pry them off as well.

re: Almost time for some paint!
well, it certainly wasn't like what was being explained to me. It was a screw off piece. Maybe that is why it wouldn't pop off ![Laughing lol](./images/smilies/icon_laughing01.gif)
now I have to figure how he routed the antenna line because it got reception, but it was a radio in the headliner. We sure don't have any cover pieces to hide wires. Gotta see where it leads to I guess.

Well, thanks. I got in the habit of taking lots of work related photos when the Sony Mavica first came out, the one that used a 3 1/2" disc. It always amazed me that one photo could explain so much. I've been in lots of meetings with architects and engineers. They would usually roll out the HUGE multi-page blueprints and then begin a contest to see who could refer to something on as many different pages as possible. I found that projecting one nice aerial photo would often calm this crowd of unruly professionals.Jor, you have a HUGE collection of useful pictures!

Also if you are going to replace the cowl lacing it would benefit you to get those old clips off now so you won't skin your new paint up later.Man I wish I was as far along on my project as you.Good luck and good job so far.Calvin
