I thought as much. I did some digging in the Master Parts Catalog and it didn't show a dual front shock setup at all....not that that means anything.

Here's a few pictures borrowed from Barry of an alternate course of action for adding a second shock. Since the spring tower is the same piece on both sides, the hole for the upper shock mount is already there, and this enterprising person simply welded some tabs onto the I-beam for the lower mounts:

I've also heard of one instance where someone took the factory swaybar mount bracket and used that as the lower shock mount. The bracket I'm referring to is the one which mounts under the front spring. I believe he simply mounted a shock stud where the swaybar's link assembly would normally attach. The bracket is the piece numbered '5C499' in the attached diagram (lower left corner).

thanks for the info!
Are the i-beams still useable even though they have been welded?

I wouldn't think welding a stud on the I-beam is going to damage anything. Those are made of forged steel, so they're plenty strong.

You didn't say....does this truck have drum or disc brakes? All drum-brake systems have a distribution block, all disc-brake systems have a proportioning valve. Neither of these was ever built into the master cylinder...they're a completely separate piece.

The factory drum-brake distribution block isn't necessary per se...you could replace it with an appropriate brass fitting, you'd simply lose the dash-mounted warning light feature.
