Feels good when you drive it after you fix it, doesn't it! My truck far from perfect but I LOVE to drive it.

I went to a local resterant that has a big (200 to 300 cars) criuse every Sat. nite. It was the first time I got to show off my fresh engine. I heard a small boy telling his father,"Dad, this truck is all rusty. It's not new, it's all beat up!" The father sounded a little embarrased when he was telling his boy to shush. I had to smile. I wasn't hurt or mad, it's my truck and I like it just the way it is! :D  Oh, I forgot, it was the only bumpside there. Not to many around here for some reason.

John I saw your truck there on Sat. I was by it but i did not see ya. i took my bike up there, the only green one in the whole place. I walked to the other side to meet my friends, (he had the black dodge dually with the semi tires on it) walked back and you were gone! I thought about bringing mine up there, I would have been laughed out of the place.

I'll spend days hammering and shrinking to get things the way I want it... or strip paint because I don't like the way it looks... but that's just me... :hmm: To each their own... i cant see any car going in for a primer job to get a perfect final product with out ANY bondo on it. a good quality paintjob requires at LEAST a skim coat IMO. lead is obsolete IMO anything newer than mid 60's.

ken's1971 wrote:Ah, stirred up the hornets nest. Well good points, where did i get this idea that the truck had to be worth what i put into it? I dunno where i got that idea. But if actually started on it the instant i first thought about it, i'd have a nice truck by now.

Keep second guessing myself guess i will quit that.

I really like my ford pickup, I wish it could be perfect, but to me i can't justify it. So bondo it is for me, to each his own. But i don't think i'll get rid of it EVER, it was my healing truck after my bout with severe mental illness. Spent my time fixing every little thing the first year, barely even drove it, but i'm not getting rid of it. NEVER!

Cheers
Ken It is only natural to want what you paid into it. And maybe a little more for that there are auctions.

Also when you compute that the new ones put out the same or more smog(proven by Yale and Harvard,Stanford and Dartmouth). And they also only get 3-5 more highway miles to the gallon.

So when you have something that you love, get the same milage and pollution as the newer $35,000 truck(wich unless you sell it and get another one every two months you will never see $35,000 out of it). And no carpayment i think you can afford more upgrade/repairs and fuel.

And beside these are just fun. Not trying to attack you just sharing my feelings and honest opinion.

I mean if i was a jerk i'd buy it from you and fix it and rubb it in. And worse of all deny you the fun and experience of the rebuild.

I don't want to give em a heart-attack. That is what would happen if I answered the door in the buff. Heck it almost scares me to death when I step out of the shower and look in the mirror.~Mancar1~

To me, that's the whole point right there!
I want something dependable to drive, that I can still use as a truck and not get hysterical if the paint gets scratched. I'm going to tyr and keep mine down to 'weekend projects.' That is, things I can fix on a a weekend. I just don't have the time for a frame-off restoration. (Or the desire.)
I want it to be FUN! :)
